01 | START WITH AN OBJECT YOU LOVE
When decorating or designing a space, start with a non-negotiable - something that you can’t live without. This object could be sentimental, a cool new hanging light fixture or even your favorite photo of you and your family. From there you can build the remaining objects around this piece.
02 | CREATE BALANCE
When creating a cohesive space, start with that object you love, find a home for it. This could be a spot on the wall, on an ottoman or buffet or even on a council table. Wherever your gut tells you, place it there and start to ‘shop your home’ with other objects to fill the space.
When finding additional decor elements think in rules of three. Also consider the heights of the objects and find things that complement without competing with each other for attention. To ensure that your pieces complement each other, think of the color, tones and textures of all the elements - space similar items apart or on another shelf to can achieve cohesive balance as well.
03 | TRUST YOUR GUT
Design trends come and go, but when creating a space that truly is your own, trust your gut and go with what you really like. This will make your space not only reflect you, but will also feel welcoming and inviting when you come home to it.
